Geographical Features Geographical features shape the land and water of Earth, and we can describe their locations and changes using the present perfect. Mountains and Ranges Mountains are high areas of land, while ranges are groups of connected mountains. Their locations can be described by naming both a feature and its continent. Match the Range Present Perfect Deserts and Plains Deserts receive very little rainfall, while plains are broad areas of relatively flat land. A continent may contain both, so identify the specific feature rather than guessing from the continent alone. Choose the Continent Landform Clues If a description focuses on broad, level ground, it points to a plain; if it focuses on dry conditions and little rainfall, it points to a desert. Use these clues to distinguish features before matching them to continents. Rivers and Lakes Rivers are flowing bodies of water, and lakes are surrounded by land. Their courses and locations can cross or lie within different regions of a continent. Locate the Nile River Sentence Oceans and Seas Oceans are vast bodies of salt water, and seas are smaller areas of salt water often partly enclosed by land.
